Taking Criticism

Somewhere in your business set up process, it is likely that you will run into some negative feedback.  Its going to hurt.  You will have put a lot of work into laying the foundations of your business and the last thing you want is somebody telling you it isn’t going to work.

If and when this does happen, don’t let it get to you and kill your enthusiasm.  Use it to make your business plan stronger.  If somebody says what you are planning on doing isn’t going to work, ask why.  Then, process the information, see where the negative comment is coming from, and either address it if it’s valid or ignore it if it isn’t.

It’s a sad truth but many people would rather see you fail.  They are jealous of your drive to succeed.  They are jealous that you have what it takes to do better for yourself while they wallow in misery.  If your initiative to start a new business makes somebody feel inadequate, it is easier for them to take out their anger on you by being negative instead of helping themselves.

In general, try to avoid negative people.  Remember, this is YOUR new business.  You get to work with the people you want.  Since you run the show, you have the freedom to make those choices.
