A Question for Potential Entrepreneurs

October 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Some of you might be thinking about starting a company.  Some of you might simply be looking for fair compensation as the world economy begins to stagnate.  Chances are though, unless your last name is Gates or Buffet, you wouldn’t mind making a few extra dollars.  Regardless of who you are, if you don’t already own your own company, there is one question you need to ask yourself.

Is my employer making more in profits from my work than I recieve in my paycheck?

If the answer to this question is a definite no, you can sleep easy knowing that you are atleast getting a fair deal.  There is no shame in working for sombody else as long as the employer employee relationship is fair.

If you are unsure or the answer is yes, you have some work to do.

Entrepreneurship does require a certain personality type and it may not be the answer for everybody.  If you are one of those people simply looking for fair compensation, do yourself a favor and sit down with your boss.  You might be suprised at how much respect you can earn by whipping out a calculator and demanding what is rightfully yours.

If like me you love the opportunity provided by capitalism and the idea of running a company does sound good to you, understand that groggy credit markets and slow consumer spending isn’t going to make things easy.  The entrepreneur that makes it in today’s economy must think be able to think creatively and work with limited funding.

People who embrace entrepreneurship in tough times are those who stand the greatest chance of being rewarded for their work.  To rely on others to fix our own economic problems is foolish.  The only way out is through new beginnings and hard work.  My question to you is simple.  Do you have what it takes to rebuild the world economy?
